One year from today on February 17th 2009 analog television as we know it will be turned off.

What this means for us production types:
  1. Over-the-air television reception will require a digital television (or a set-top converter box) plus a different type of exterior antenna
  2. Those of us pursuing better quality HD production won’t have to talk about the future as much
  3. Those of us who use wireless devices (like microphones, video links, etc) will have an increasingly harder time finding clear space. (This is part of the reason why I switched to 2.4Ghz wireless audio systems in ’07)

Check out the FCC auctions to see who has bought the current frequencies and what their intentions are.
